Project 24 Diary

Postby Graham on Tue 03 Nov, 2009 10:13 pm

Model: ST24
Engine: 2.5 V6
Year: 2000

Introduction:
After my first Mondeo, 2.0 Zetec, wasn't worth repairing I started looking for a V6 replacement. After seeing a couple of poor motors a fellow SMF member offered me theirs and it was a done deal. I had no intentions of doing a lot of work to the car, but that lasted all of 2 weeks before the bug bit again. Here then is my current to date diary of mods and work completed on Project 24 with plenty more ideas to follow

***********************************************************************************************************************************************

Car was bought on 4th April 2009 looking like this

The blackeye headlights from my old car were fitted as the car didnt have any lol.

Then gave it some crystal side repeaters and chrome bulbs

Door handle surrounds swapped for set with lighting spaces and blue LEDs wired in.

One of the biggest jobs so far was the front bumper. After seeing another Mondeo with the center bar cut out of the lower grille I wanted the same look. A spare bumper was sourced and the fun began.

Bar cut from bumper

Cut was smoothed back, filled and repainted.
At the same time the front grilles and fog light surrounds were painted black to give a different look to the front
Image

Upper manifold supplied by Kev was ultrasonically cleaned, sand blasted to smooth the finish and powdercoated blue and silver to give a blue/chrome flip effect. Annodised bolts and chrome washers fitted. Set of Magnecor Ignition Leads also fitted at this time.
Image

Short Shifter fitted. 60% less throw between gears. Much shorter gear stick.
Image

Silver front numberplate fitted with custom SMF numerplate surround.

Slam panel painted black for more subtle look with engine detailing.
Chrome covers fitted to various components.

Lower Section of rear bumper done satin black to give a more modern look.
Image

Image

IMRC Cover changed for one without any lettering. More polished covers added.
Image

Sail Panels covered with satin black decal to give a more subtle finish.
